PW's Breakfast Puffs

Hi guys, this week (and from now on, I hope) I have my wonderful friend Melanie joining me to cook through the PW Cookbook We've decided to do it together, and I can't tell you how much fun this is now going to be for me. I posted a few details over at my Daily Blog about how we'll be tackling this 'challenge' so if you want to read more please hop on over there to today's post which I've directly linked HERE for you.

So this week I chose the recipe Breakfast Puffs simply for the fact that I had all the ingredients in (except the Crisco) so I didn't have to buy much at the grocery store for it.

First off, here are the ingredients. . .

You start by mixing your dry ingredients, then in a separate bowl beat the sugar and shortening together. I went ahead and used my lovely KitchenAid mixer . . .

after that you simply add 2 eggs and mix, then alternately add the flour mixture and the milk until a thick batter forms . . .

then you 'plop' the batter in to a 12 cup muffin pan. . .

It's a very well loved muffin pan, can you tell ;-) But here's the thing, after I filled this pan I still had a lot of batter left? The recipe states it makes 12 muffins but if I divided the mixture between just 12 these things would be seriously spilling over? The recipe said to fill 2/3 ful, which I think I did.

So, out of the oven these lovely things pop and I'm happy to say didn't stick . . .

and I filled the muffin pan 7 more times!! And now for the fun part. . .

dip them in melted butter then in to a cinnamon and sugar mix.

We coated just 12 and put the other 7 in the freezer for another Sunday morning breakfast.

Verdict: Fun and easy to make, but I'm not sure I would call these 'puffs'. It didn't hold it's own like a muffin, was more crumbly than I expected and a little dry inside if I'm honest. What made them yummy was the outer coating of butter, sugar and cinnamon. Would I make them again... no (I'd probably be lazy and just use a packet muffin mix) are there any left...no (unless you count the ones in the freezer. Kristen and Jason liked them, and my waisteline likes me for only having one ;-)

Next week we'll be making meatloaf (Melanie's pick)!

This is going to be fun. It is fun to see how you post about the recipe and see if it is different than mine;) We both agree that we wouldn't make them again but the men in our house ate them! LOL!

Well they sure look tasty. I know my hubby would love them, because they have cinnamon on them. But think I will skip trying these, as my waistline still has to get into a dress for son's wedding.

BTW sweetie, you link to your daily blog isn't linked.

Hugs,
Cindy

Those look great! Cinnamon sugar donuts are my favorite and I think these would be just as good!

It is going to be such a fun adventure for you and your friend to cook through the book together!

I wonder why the recipe yielded so many puffs? You sure ended up with a lot more than you bargained for:D

Congrats on only eating one puff. I don't think I have that much self control.

Oh my goodness those sound like they'd be wonderful with a cup of coffee. I'm definitely going to try them.
